The Ferronickel submerged arc furnace is a special submerged arc furnace used for smelting nickel-iron alloy. Its main function is to add nickel ore, carbonaceous reducing agent (such as coke) and limestone and other raw materials into the furnace in a certain proportion, and heat them through electrodes to make the raw materials react chemically at high temperature to smelt nickel-iron alloy.

Main Application of Ferronickel Arc Furnace
The Ferro nickel melting Furnace is mainly used in the production of nickel ferron alloy.
Qualified sintered nickel ore, carbonaceous reducing agent (such as coke) and limestone and other raw materials are added into the nickel-iron furnace according to a certain proportion.
The raw materials are heated by electrodes to cause a chemical reaction at high temperature and smelt to obtain nickel-iron alloy.

4. The short network (bus bar system) adopts water-cooled compensator, water-cooled copper pipe, water-cooled cable and water-cooled conductive plate, and adopts a new energy-saving short network structure with outer triangle arrangement.
5. The ferro-nickel furnace feeding system is high-level silo sliding pipe feeding or manual feeding in front of the furnace.
6. Smoke hood: cylindrical, water-cooled metal frame, movable water-cooled metal cover plate structure.
7. Circulating water cooling, and the equipment is required to have a high-level backup water system to prevent damage to parts caused by sudden power outages, and an over-temperature automatic alarm system is used.

Ferronickel Furnace Steelmaking Process

The process flow of smelting nickel iron in ferro-nickel furnace is: nickel ore → dehydration, agglomeration → adding coke and flux → ferronickel submerged arc furnace smelting → crude nickel iron → C, Si, P, S refining → nickel iron.

The electric furnace method uses C as a reducing agent to reduce Ni0, Fe0 and other oxides in nickel ore under high temperature conditions of electric energy to smelt nickel iron. Therefore, in the process of electric furnace smelting, adjusting the appropriate carbon amount and limiting Fe0 reduction can produce electric furnace nickel ferron with a high Ni content.

This process is mainly used for pyrometallurgical smelting of nickel ferron abroad, and it is also widely used by domestic manufacturers when producing products containing more than 10% Ni. The main smelting equipment is the ferronickel furnace. Some domestic manufacturers also use electric furnaces with similar structures to electric arc furnaces (the maximum capacity of their equipment is 9MVA). Their nickel ore pretreatment methods, specific operations of the smelting process, matching of refining process equipment and refining effects are not the same, and there are certain differences in the comparison of various indicators.

This process can produce ferronickel of any nickel content using any iron-nickel grade ore. Technically, this is achieved by controlling the reduction rate of iron in the rotary kiln stage (all of the nickel is reduced to metal, and part of the iron is reduced to metal and low-valent oxides). This is the biggest feature of this process and the reason for its vitality. However, the production cost is relatively high due to the huge power consumption of the blast furnace. In addition, Ferronickel furnace factories cannot be built in areas with power shortages.
