The basic process of DC electric arc furnace steelmaking includes slag removal, metal charging, power supply, melting, oxidation, reduction refining and tapping. Depending on the characteristics of the type of steel being smelted, there are different operating methods. The smelting process mainly consists of three phases: melting, oxidation, and reduction.

The smelting process flow is as follows:
Furnace repair → feeding (first basket) – power-on – oxygen and natural gas for combustion support → power-off feeding (second basket) → power-on – oxygen and natural gas for combustion support – component analysis → temperature measurement → slag flow – temperature measurement and component analysis – certain oxygen – power-off tapping (open EBT tapping hole) → plug EBT tapping hole → furnace repair.
