Submerged Arc Furnace Water-cooled Roof

Submerged arc furnace water-cooled roof is an important part of submerged arc furnace (also known as electric arc furnace, calcium carbide furnace or mining furnace), which is mainly used to close the top of furnace body and bear the high temperature and pressure in the furnace. The SAF furnace cover maintains its structural strength through a built-in water cooling system to prevent deformation or damage at high temperature.

The SAF water-cooled furnace cover is usually made of steel plate, with water pipe or water jacket inside. The heat on the surface of SAF furnace cover is taken away by circulating cooling water to reduce the temperature of furnace roof. This design helps to maintain structural stability and extend the life of the hood.


During the operation of submerged arc furnace, the water-cooled furnace roof bears the heat radiation and pressure generated by electrodes, materials and furnace gas in the furnace. Meanwhile, since submerged arc furnaces are usually operated in high temperature, high pressure and high corrosion environment, the material and manufacturing process of SAF water cooled roof shall have excellent high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and compression resistance.


In addition, the sealing performance shall be considered for the design of water-cooled furnace cover to prevent gas leakage and external impurities from entering the furnace, which will affect the reaction and product quality in the furnace.


In a word, submerged arc furnace cover is an important part of submerged arc furnace, which is used to close the top of furnace body, bear high temperature and pressure in the furnace, maintain structural stability and prolong service life. At the same time, the design and manufacture of the water cooled furnace cover shall consider the requirements of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, compression resistance and tightness.

The raw materials can be automatically added into the furnace with multiple feed pipes, thus reducing the labor intensity of workers: the gas is not burned at the furnace mouth, reducing the radiant heat and furnace dust, and improving the environment and equipment use conditions;

The purified gas can be recycled to save a lot of fuel;

The conductive system is not affected by high temperature, and the disconnected network and flexible bus can be close to the electrode as far as possible to reduce the length of the conductive tube;

Short network (bus system) layout can adopt the intermediate incoming line method, that is, the copper bar from the transformer is directly led to the furnace core, and the current is transmitted to the copper bush through the collecting ring, so that the length of the three-phase copper bar is basically the same, the load of each phase is balanced, and the reactance can be reduced.
